I payed Hub van Laar a visit today for a new trumpet. After testing most models in his shop (like B1, B2, B5, B6, R1, R2, R3 and the 9.1, 9.2,9.3 and the Chuck Findley model) , the R1 was my favorite model. This model has a nice open bright sound when you push it in the upper register, but can also sound warmer when you play softer on it.
I’ve played a R2 for 5 years which served me well, but I’m playing more compact nowadays with my CF and B4 trumpet which I both like very much. So I was looking for something in between those two and I think the R1 is that trumpet. I have to test it off course in action, but I’m pretty sure the trumpet will be fine!
