qPress Music Publishing released 4 new Blue Mitchell transcriptions books. I’ve already started transcribing my 9th Blue Mitchell album so there is more to come. Blue Mitchell was a master in playing clear lines, combined with super phrasing & timing. He didn’t play much above a high C, so the solos are not that hard to master when you compare them to Clifford Brown or Fats Navarro. I’m using this material in my lessons now on the Amsterdam University of the Arts where I’m teaching jazz techniques. They are super for learning jazz phrasing and building nice solos.
