I’m writing a book about improvisation because I have some fun ideas about that topic… There are many ways to tackle this topic I was inspired by Louis Armstrongs way of soloing. He stayed close to the original theme and used a lot of broken chords (arpeggios) in his solos.
So I start each song as written in the Real Book and add step for step more interesting ingredients to the melody so it transforms in an improvisation. But also I dive a bit deeper in playing broken chords and jazz articulation. It’s not finished yet but the first 100 pages are ready. Each song has a swinging backing track btw.
