qPress Music Publishing just released the 2nd jazz articulation book in this series. It’s super fun to dive deep into this topic because there is so much to discover and to learn. In my lessons on the Amsterdam University of the Arts I always talk about this topic with my students so it’s also good to have my facts together. But mostly it great fun to transcribe all those beautiful jazz lines which are played the last century.
The book starts of with explaining jazz articulation and how it changed through the years. Then I wrote 12 exercises to practice and refine your articulation. Then 24 solo transcriptions starting with Joe “King” Oliver until (1924) a solo transcription of “WE4” played by Fabrizzio Bosso (2020) finishes the book.
